Google India Beefs Up Top Management
Google has made some key senior management appointments for its India operations. Sridhar Seshadri has been appointed Business Head-Financial Services, Parminder Singh is Business Head-Technology, while Narasimha Jayakumar has been brought in as Business Head-Travel & Local for its advertising and monetisation business.
According to Google India, the appointment of Sridhar Seshadri, Parminder Singh and Narasimha Jayakumar is part of its strategy to go deep in the key sectors and deliver significant and measurable growth for customers leveraging the AdWords platform.
At Google India, Sridhar Seshadri will be responsible for the generation of Google’s advertising business from the financial services segment and will focus on serving key clients in the banking, insurance and mutual funds sectors.
Parminder Singh will drive Google’s advertising operations in the technology and telecommunications space in India. Narasimha Jayakumar will be responsible for growing Google’s presence in the travel, local (which includes classifieds and real estate) space.
The appointment of these senior business executives is part of Google India’s strategy to go deep in the key sectors and deliver significant and measurable growth for customers leveraging the AdWords platform. Industry teams led by these newly appointed leaders will focus on providing counsel to customers regarding their digital, marketing and advertising strategies.
Commenting on the appointments, Shailesh Rao, Managing Director, Google India, said, “We always seek more ways to create value for our partners and customers. At this stage of our evolution in India, we believe it is critical to bring in senior executives who have the right domain expertise to drive focused growth for Google and our customers in key industry sectors. To create more value for our customers, we want to be able to help them perfect their digital strategies and drive measurable and sustained business growth by leveraging the medium to its fullest using platforms like AdWords across the web, mobile, and potentially other channels in the future. These three individuals, each rising executive stars in their respective industries, represent the perfect blend of industry credibility rooted in real front line experience and a deep understanding of technology and how it will transform these markets for decades to come. We are excited and privileged to have their leadership at Google.”
Orkut and Google have topped India ratings in a few studies for now and they need to stay ahead of the curve to retain their market share. Yahoo is looking to capture small businesses with their new search marketing platform – seems like Google is gearing up to target that sector as well and that is why Mr. Seshadri has probably been brought on board. Mr. Seshadri was a key player in proliferating the services of ICICI Bank - at ICICI Bank, his responsibilities spanned from advertising and marketing to product development and branch banking. Most recently, he was in the Rural, Agricultural and Micro-Banking division of ICICI Bank. So he most definitely understands the pulse of the Indian Consumer and could be instrumental in getting more small businesses on board to the adwords platform. His insights on support and feature additions would be invaluable, no doubt.
